Expanding Awareness On Child Safety In And Around CarsAccidents are the leading cause of death for children, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. And some of the most common and preventable accidents happen in and around automobiles. For 10 years, Safe Kids Worldwide and General Motors have worked to educate parents about proper safety seat use. Now they are working to expand awareness with a new program called Spot the Tot. "Spot the Tot" emphasizes safety both in and around cars. One of the most tragic and preventable accidents is when a driver doesn't see a child playing behind a vehicle as he or she is backing up. It's hard to see them from the rearview and side mirrors, especially when they are a few feet away from the bumper. That's why it's important to get out of the car and do a walk around for a visual check before getting in, adjusting your mirrors and driving away. Produced for General Motors
