Child Health 2008
I would like to acknowledge and give my grateful thanks for Rose Marie Ferron who has kindly allowed me to use her image for the Celebration of Women's International Day 2008. See her stream: www.flickr.com/photos/marieroseferron/ I am delighted to beable to promote another women's efforts in photography, rather than my own on this particular day. This image is one of three to be shown over the next three days and introduces a new project of mine called Women's Real Lives in the C21st. The idea was first thought of many months ago. Because of time and the shere vastness of the subject ,it will appear in stages on here. My topic considered of great interest and importance to me, is one of maternity and reproductive health. One women every minute in the world dies as a result of pregnancy and childbirth. The Eight Millennium Development Goals agreed at the United Nations Summit in Geneva, Sept 2000, of which number five, was to reduce maternal deaths worldwide. The vast majority of these deaths are avoidable, aggrevated by poverty and malnutrition. The target of cutting maternal deaths by 27% by 2015 will not be met if current figures and trends continue. Access to primary health care clinics, contraception and skilled midwives are key areas of need and resources. Sierra Leone has the highest Mortality rate in the world with Afghanistan second.(WHO stats). This picture shows a different story. This delivery I understand had its fraught complications but due to skilled care, both mother and child are safe and well Please also Visit my Blog. and read my most latest and previous blog, both related to this topic. May I take this opportunity to wish all women on here my regards and prayers for their health, safety and freedom on this day; being to celebrate the sisterhood of women worldwide.
